Metal mash-ups

With all of this work from home time (Covid), I was in need of some new tunes to check out. All because of someone’s comment on the local radio station’s FB page about a mashup of The Wiggles and Slipknot I have discovered the wonderful world of metal mashups. Sure I had heard a couple of these types of songs before but never really took the time to seek out anything along those lines and from what I have discovered, boy have I been missing out.

A mashup is a creative work, usually in a form of a song, created by blending two or more pre-recorded songs, usually by superimposing the vocal track of one song seamlessly over the instrumental track of another, and let me tell you I have found some absolute gems. Not being a musician I had no idea that so many songs of different genres utilized the same time signature and it was pretty amazing how many metal songs that I was so familiar with easily laid in on top of a pop song or vice versa.

My favorite so far being a mashup of a Black Label Society song and The Temptations vocals. I think it is absolute pure brilliance (OH YEAH! – that will make sense after you hear the mashup), and the video for it is hilarious with wild man Zakk shredding on his axe while The Temptations fellas are dancing to their own choreography from their video made several decades ago.  The two songs just sync up so well together and fueled my desire to find more like it.

I am certain that no matter the genre of your favorite music there are some mashups out there for you. This by no means is an all-encompassing list, but these are just the ones that I have found enjoyable and wanted to share. Please send along your favorites for me to check out. \m/
